Collaborative Team Approaches to the Education of Students with SEN Building School and System Capacity
Module 17

This 6-week module for Special Education Needs (SEN) builds on Module 16 to focus on implementing evidence-based practices that address the most common SEN in the OECS. Specifically, participants will learn how to incorporate high-level practices for SEN in their lesson plans.  They will also learn how to critically review and utilize Online SEN Resources to support the implementation of High-Leverage Practices in their schools and classrooms. Through the exploration of varied online resources for Special Education and Inclusive Education, participants will actively engage in professional conversations and applied learning activities as they learn about:

  • Informal, classroom diagnostic assessments that teachers can use to gather information about their students’ strengths, challenges, and interests.
  • The creation of Learner Profiles of strengths, challenges, and interests based on assessment information.
  • Tailoring lesson plans and classroom instruction to the Learner Profiles of their students with SEN.
  • Embedding high-level practices for SEN in their lesson plans.
  • Readily accessible Online Resources that teachers can tap into to access information, materials, programmes, and teaching and assessment strategies for students with specific SEN.
  • Strategies for critically reviewing Online SEN Resources to determine their appropriateness for their students, schools, and classrooms.
  • Practical communication and collaboration strategies for team meetings with parents
